Hector Villegas, neighborhood activist and artist in Chicano Park, will discuss his artwork and neighborhood organizing efforts against gentrification in Barrio Logan, San Diego. Chicano Park is a public space of neighborhood resistance and cultural self-determination for Chican@s in Southern California. The park is home to the country’s largest collection of outdoor murals. The neighborhood is currently experiencing pressures of housing and commercial gentrification, and activists are organizing to protect their neighborhood. Villegas’ visit is in association with the inaugural AAA 321 Inclusive Urbanism course.
